My turtle fell and is bleeding from its mouth. Why won't it eat?

There is no medicine that you can buy over the counter stop bleeding in a tortoise. If there is internal bleeding it will either stop or not, there is nothing you can do about it unfortunately. You cannot give those medications anyway, unless you know there is actual internal bleeding or you will cause more issues. I'm sorry this happened but there is nothing you can do but either get him to a vet or just wait it out and see how he does. I suggest you try to minimize handling in the next few days as to not stress him and keep him in a calm, quiet area away from any other pets.

Thanks for reaching out about Patrisha and including a photo. The dark spot on the plastron is probably due to the thin shell and internal organs underneath. Hemorrhage under the shell can also appear like this. Check and correct husbandry especially water and environmental temperature. A veterinary visit could help assist with diagnosis and treatment. Offer a baby food via a syringe might give calories. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Buddy. Chewing and spitting out food is suggestive of an obstruction. Could there be a possible substrate ingestion (rocks, etc)? Vitamin A deficiencies can cause epithelial (skin, throat linings) to swell. Calcium deficiencies can affect muscle and skeletal structure. Brightly colored foods (red/yellow/orange vegetables) and movement (live fish, worms) can stimulate appetite. Check and correct water husbandry. Otherwise a veterinary visit is needed. Good luck.

Can you post again with photos? Do you mean the beak if broken or the actual jaw? That makes in difference on how we can help. I recommend you feed him soft foods for a while. Things he doesn't have to bite down on hard or tear with his beak. Really, a vet exam would be best. They can put in a feeding tube until the beak regrows or the fractured jaw heals.

Be sure to feed her in the water. Water depth should be no more than 3-4 inches at her size. You can offer appropriately sized prey such as crickets or dubia roaches. Brine shrimp, tubifex worms and fresh greens and fruit can also be offered. Commercial pellets or sticks should be a staple. It is not uncommon for a turtle this small to have a somewhat soft shell. Continue to monitor for bleeding, pitting or lethargy. maintain pristine water quality. At this size, water depth should be no deeper than twice the shell length.provide a water heater, water filter, basking area out of the water, a heat lamp for basking and a UVB light source. Offer a balanced diet including prey (feeder fish, nightcrawlers, etc), fresh diced greens and vegetables and commercial pellets.
