Can I return my leopard gecko to the store if I can no longer care?

Hello! Tokay geckos are not very social pets. Regardless of handling and training over time, some species are still very difficult to tame and are more "look but don't touch" pets. Most Tokay geckos would fall into this category. Some people enjoy having pets like this, and some do not. I am only saying this as it sounds like you may be a bit discouraged by his lack of social behavior, but it likely has nothing to do with your handling skills and everything to do with his biology. Most pet stores will not take pets back unless they were purchased very recently. Looking to see if you can rehome them though a local ad, or contacting a local animal shelter may be your best option. A local shelter may be able to get you into contact with a bird rescue that can take them and adopt them out to a new home for you.

Have him examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp vet. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites. This will all give you a better idea of his health status. Barring any major illness or injury, he could be rehabbed and live a "normal" life. Set him up in an appropriate enclosure with correct parameters. Offer appropriately sized and gut loaded prey as well as some Fluker's Repti-Boost. Soak in a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte daily for 20-30 minutes to maintain hydration. I commend you for rescuing those Leos! Female leopard geckos may live together peacefully as long as they have a large enough enclosure. Males should not be housed together as they will fight. If you have a male and female, they should be separated until the female is at least 55 grams, which is the minimum weight recommended for breeding. I would guess they may be about 3-5 months old. Hatchlings typically weigh 2-5 grams for reference. There is no "standard" since leos will grow at different rates depending on dietary and environmental factors. You can determine sex by looking underneath. Males have noticeably distinct femoral pores and pre-anal pores. The base of their tail will have two hemipenal bumps as well. The best thing would be to ask a friend to feed him and check on him. You can also find a veterinarian or a shelter which may take him for a holiday. You could ask at a pet store if they know a petsitter that can take him for the time you are away.
