Is it normal for my leopard gecko to hide in its cave all day?

This should be worrisome. Is he still eating/maintaining weight? Check and correct the temperature to provide POTZ (preferred optical temperature zone). If remains lethargic, not eating, a veterinary visit is recommended. Intestinal parasites,kidney disease, gastrointestinal obstructions from ingestion of substrate, are all common problems. Hello. While 75-80F is a good range for the warm end of the cage, it would be ideal to have temps from 68-75 at the cooler end so he can self regulate his temperature. If the enclosure is too small to allow such a temperature gradient, then you may find your gecko will become stressed from being either too hot or too cold, and then susceptible to infection. Look through the enclosure and over his body for signs of infection or illness. Count food items offered so you can be sure how much he eats. Also consider a red or blue bulb for night viewing. This may help you observe his nocturnal activity better. Regardless, a new pet exam by a veterinarian is always a good idea to ensure good health and proper husbandry. Good luck!

It is likely he was stressed. Give him some time to settle down and he should be fine. Keep an eye on his feet and toes. If there is any discoloration, have him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles.

This is not uncommon for a juvenile gecko. Be sure to provide a humid hide and soak her to prevent difficult sheds. Young geckos will shed more frequently than adults simply because they are growing at a faster rate.

The tank looks fine, but geckos absorb heat better through their bellies than through their back, as they tend to be more active at dawn and dusk, rather than other lizards that are active during the day and would bask in the sun in the wild.
