Gecko has white mass in ear, itching. Is it an infection or cage issue?

Hi there, unfortunately your photo is not attached to your question. White spots on Leopard geckos can definitely be retained shed, but can also be bacterial or fungal infection. He should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles. If there is infection, antibiotics will be required for treatment. Gently clean the area daily with a cotton swab and some diluted betadine or Chlorhexidine (Hibiclens). Use paper towels as substrate and change daily to prevent contamination. Provide a moist hide (at least 60% humidity) for him within his enclosure as well. Consider increasing temps slightly to aid in recovery

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). I would recommend to monitor it for the moment to see if it spreads or resolve at all. Should it deteriorate (bigger, more spots or swollen), a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) may be needed to solve the problem. In the meantime you can swab the infected area with a diluted povidone-iodine solution twice daily.

Gremlin needs to be examined by the veterinarian. With multiple areas of concern (the ear tips and the nose), something like ringworm (which humans can get), bacterial infection or vasculities are concerning and need treatment. Also, an ear infection needs medication that you can only get from your veterinarian. Ear infections can be painful and they can move into an inner ear infection which is much harder (and more expensive) to treat. Have Gremlin examined within the next 24 hours. Try offering a warm water soak for 10-15 minutes and see if you can gently manually lift off the skin. Vitamin A deficiencies can play a part in shedding difficulty. Crickets, mealworms and other insects need to be properly gut-loaded to provide adequate nutrition. If problematic, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Good luck.

Oh my, poor Esme! There is no doubt that her ear is significantly inflamed. Even though she is not itchy, my main suspicion is that the redness, scaling, and warmth are inflammatory reactions to an ear infection or allergies. Some dogs are quite stoic when their ears are uncomfortable and may not itch with these conditions. Regardless, I strongly recommend taking Esme to her vet for evaluation. The vet will be able to examine her ears thoroughly, including the lower portions of the ear canal that are not visible to the naked eye. The vet will also be able to microscopically evaluate any discharge present in her ears to determine if infection is present. From there, medication can be prescribed to either treat an infection or to treat this significant inflammation. I hope this helps and that Esme feels better soon!

Thanks for reaching out about your gecko. Could it be a blister from a heat lamp? check heat lamps and how close your gecko can get to them (i.e. basking site on a branch). Maybe place a thermometer at that spot to check. Infections can also cause some blistering. If persists, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
