My crested gecko won't drink from a bowl. How can I get it to drink?

Hello! My crested gecko doesn't know how to drink from glass, or a standing water bowl, so I have no other way to get her to drink other than lightly spraying her mouth and eyes so she licks the water off. That works perfectly fine (Other than more time caring for her) but when she is in one of her hides, I can't get to her. (There are little passage ways in the tree hide, which makes it impossible to water her). How can I teach her to drink water? (Or any other solution, really :) Thanks!

Created geckos naturally drink from drops of water on leaves. Make sure your enclosure has plenty of decorative plants with leaves and make sure to spray the enclosure down with water at least twice a day. You many never see her drink, but she will. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Thanks for reaching out about Aspen. It is sometimes difficult to soak them since they climb walls well. A shallow pan with a lid might keep Aspen in the water for several minutes, by not allowing to climb out. Just don't make it stressful. Abort if concerned and leave to spraying/misting. Good luck.

Why is my crested gecko constipated? What home remedies can I try?

Give her a 15-20 minute soak in a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte daily. During the soak, gently massage her abdomen front to back to stimulate defecation. The soak will warm her up, hydrate her and get her GI tract moving. This should help with defecation. Make sure she is eating an appropriate Crestie diet (Pangea, Repashy, etc). She can eat prey/insects, but if she eats too much, she may get a bit constipated.

You can try changing the water bowl type to see if it encourages her to drink. Some birds also like drip waterers (that would be similar to using the paintbrush, only she could do it on her own), or even waters that have a sort of sieve that can be drank from rather than a dish. Peruse the [bird waterers](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/category/bird/waterers-and-feeders-for-birds) offered on the Petco website. You may be able to find something to use instead fo the brush.

How to get my crested gecko to eat crickets if he prefers Repashy?

Check the temperature in his enclosure. Low temps can affect appetite in reptiles. Offer prey about 2 hours after the heat lamp turns on in the morning. Make sure he is well hydrated by soaking or misting him regularly. It may be a preference. If he is eating the Repashy CGD regularly, don't worry too much about him eating crickets or not.

How to handle a hyper crested gecko that won't let me pick him up?

It will take patience and consistency on your part. Spend time sitting by the cage. He may run or hide initially, but when he doesn't, place your hand in the cage for ever increasing periods of time. Once again, he may run and hide but make no attempt to touch or hold him. Once he stops running from your hand, use special food treats/prey to entice him onto your hand. Eventually, he will anticipate your presence as meaning a potential meal or treat.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Some cats do prefer to drink from running water so a pet fountain may be a good idea. But if she is drinking more than usual a visit to the vet is needed for possible bloodwork to rule out things like kidney disease.
