What's the best carrier for transporting my bearded dragon safely?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

How can I transport my bearded dragon? how do I keep him warm(it’s starting to get pretty cold now), safe, and happy/calm? and which carrier do you recommend? The plastic ones or the bag-like ones? Thanks so much!

An appropriately sized plastic carrier would retain heat much more effectively. Pad the carrier with towels for protection. If you are traveling any distance, consider wrapping a hand warmer in a towel and placing it in the bottom to provide heat.

Hi there! There are many great commercially-produced reptile carriers out there, but my preference are the kind that have three covered sides and a clear or mesh front. Keeping them calm during travel is important, and preventing them from seeing everything going on outside can be helpful for this. Additionally, getting Clyde adjusted to the carrier before travel is a good idea. Try putting a treat that he likes in the carrier, and allowing him to venture inside on his own. Associating the carrier with a snack may also help to minimize stress in the future. Good luck, and I hope Clyde's future vet visits go well!

Clyde is adorable!!! To keep Clyde warm during transport, you can use a cooler as his container. The cooler will keep things warm or cool. If you put Clyde in the cooler with a heated towel (straight from the dryer) Clyde should stay plenty warm without a heater. Heaters such as hot hands could burn him! The cooler will also prevent Clyde from seeing and hearing the outside world which may help keep him calm. Good luck! Thanks for using pet coach!
