My bearded dragon has stuck poop or shed under its tail. What to do?

It looks like a stuck shed. A fungal infection will present differently (raised, irritated, black patches, lethargy, loss of appetite,etc). Try soaking in a warm water bath. You can add Betadine solution until the bath looks like weak tea. This can help prevent or treat mild infection due to a hard shed. See your veterinarian or an experienced herp veterinarian if Anastasia becomes lethargic, loses her appetite or if the tail begins to get strangulated by the shed.

It's probably best to have a vet take a look at the tail especially if it is appearing injured or peeling. Do NOT apply over the counter medications to the area unless instructed by your vet as it may be toxic or deadly to your beardie if he were to lick it.

In the meantime, confirm proper environmental parameters and make sure he doesn't have shed skin strangulation the affected portion of the tail. The first thing I would do is take Eragon to a vet and has his feces examined. It can be common for young reptiles to have parasites and he might need to be dewormed. If he does not have parasites the vet can discuss proper husbandry with you. Make sure to dust the crickets with calcium and gut load them before feeding.

Hi Katie. Any abnormalities you are seeing with Zillo should be checked out by your vet. I don't see anything outwardly abnormal based on those photos. Most health issues that we see in reptiles is due to improper husbandry (diet, lighting, housing, etc) so I suggest you check and make sure you are doing everything 100% correct. They do shed their skin occasionally, usually in pieces. This may be what you are seeing. If looks more dull these past couple days, it could be the beginning of a shed cycle. Monitor for lethargy or decreased appetite. Soak or mist him daily to aid shedding. If he doesn't shed, have him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles. Other possible explanations would be infection or injury. These would need a physical exam to confirm.
