Is a photoperiod light schedule truly essential for my bearded dragon?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Bearded Dragon | Male

We just purchased a bearded dragon. We were told that we have everything we need. I was reading the book we received and it says we need a photoperiod. Do we actually need one?

Yes, a 10-12 hour photoperiod would be recommended. Keeping lights on in the enclosure 24/7 will result in a stressed beardie. You can use a light timer to set an on/off cycle easily.
