My beardie is lethargic, hiding, and not drinking. Is she sick?

Our beardie has been lethargic lately. She doesn't drink much water and tends to hide in a ball under her log. Is this behavior a concern? Could she be sicm?

I am sorry that this is happening to you and Abe. It sounds like she is sick, and I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian. They will gather information about her husbandry, including her temperatures. Often if the husbandry is not perfect for our reptiles, they can become sick - temperature is a common one that can be implicated in this.
While at the veterinarian, they will perform a thorough physical examination, and may also recommend performing diagnostic testing including radiographs (x-rays) and blood work to evaluate systemic health. Based on what they find, they will make treatment recommendations.
There are a number of veterinarians within a couple of hours drive from you, including one in Golden who is comfortable seeing reptiles. If needed, you can also make an appointment with our service at Colorado State University as well. We are a bit further from you, however.
I hope that gives you a place to start, and I hope Abe feels better soon!

Thanks for reaching out about Anastasia and including photos. By the pictures she appears very thin and pliable. Metabolic bone disease (calcium deficiency) would be a primary concern. This could be due to inappropriate diet, lack of UVB radiation, too low temperature or metabolic disorders to prevent intestinal absorption. A veterinary visit is highly recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. The open mouth breathing could be due to muscle weakness, pneumonia, as well as other problems. Good luck.

Try offering vegetables by hand or pureed through a syringe. Open mouth breathing could be a respiratory infection, enlarged internal organ or metabolic concern. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. A diagnosis early in the problem, usually has a better prognosis. Good luck.

I'm sorry Drakuo is so sick. It sounds like her needs to see a veterinarian. He may have a GI blockage or sand impaction if he's been kept on sand. Some metabolic diseases will also cause Beardies to vomit. I recommend getting him seen asap. Thanks for reaching out about Lizzie. Brumation is triggered by a drop in temperature in the environment and shortening day length. If you have a heating element on your system, the temperature should not be dropping. Being quiet and secretive for two days is concerning, as they usually remain active up to the time they lay, not for several days prior. If she is egg bound, a veterinary visit is recommended. Calcium injections and a drug to induce egg laying (oxytocin) can be given to stimulate egg production. She could be sick for other reasons with kidney disease being common in aging bearded dragons. If she is still eating, you have a little time. If not, she needs to visit a veterinarian. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Thelma. Sunken adipose pads are not necessarily a bad thing unless you believe she is loosing a fair amount of weight. Check and correct husbandry for environmental temperature, humidity and UVB exposure. Renal disease is a common finding in aging bearded dragons and can manifest in drinking higher amounts of water. Intestinal conditions can lead to poor nutritional absorption and weight loss. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Good luck.
