Help! My bearded dragon has a crusty, sticky eye. What should I do?

Sometimes, the eyes will appear bulged just before shedding. This happens to both eyes though, not just one. Spyro's eye appears to be infected. This can be due to trauma, retained shed or foreign body (sand, wood, etc.). Ideally, Spyro should be examined by your veterinarian or an experienced herp veterinarian. The eye can be stained to diagnose corneal injury and flushed to remove any debris. If there is a retained eye cap, the vet may be able to remove it.

By your description, Draco may have an eye injury or infection. This would need to be confirmed by your veterinarian after an exam. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Confirm proper temps, since low temps can affect digestion in reptiles.

I would highly recommend taking Josie to a vet for a better exam. My concerned would be an upper respiratory infection or sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses). In reptiles when they have congestion in the sinus region the eyes will become infected as well. I would recommend hand feeding to make sure Josie is getting proper nutrition. Josie will most likely need antibiotics to improve

Although a picture of it would help to determine the underlying cause more specifically, That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Confirm correct cage temps and humidity levels. Ideally, a thermometer and hygrometer should be placed at each end of the encosure. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite or discharge from the eyes or nose. These can all indicate respiratory infection. The reason I ask is that the second photo looks like one is of the right eye and one is of the left eye (unless you inverted the image when posting). Based on the darker appearance of the material and the sagging of the area, it makes me suspicious that there may be an issue with some retained shed skin, or there could be an issue with the eyelids themselves. This should be evaluated by a veterinarian as they will be able to look at the area with some magnification, which may help to determine exactly what the problem is in the area. Due to the decrease in appetite, they can also provide a husbandry evaluation. I would use caution with trying to treat this at home, as due to Charizard's small size, it would be easy to accidentally traumatize the eye.
