My goldfish had explosive poop. Should I be worried? What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Fish | Unknown - Fish | Male

We have a large 5-year-old goldfish. I was walking by his aquarium (he's in a 20 gallon, but we are almost ready to transfer him to a 55 gallon), and he had an explosive poop! I've never seen him do this. What should I do?

Simply monitor him. He may have been constipated and you caught him as he finally defecated. You can fast him 1 day a week and offer cooked and shelled green peas to aid in defecation. Maintain pristine water quality and stable water chemistry.
