My dog is pregnant. When and how to safely switch her food?

At six weeks of pregnancy, she should be getting a third more food than her normal amount; for example, if she was getting 1 cup of food twice a day before she was pregnant, she should be getting 1.3 cups of food twice a day. It's important to stop giving her puppy food 10 days before her expected whelping date, and then I would feed her an adult formulated food. She can go back on the puppy food after she gives birth to the puppies. A dog's normal pregnancy is 58-68 days, so I would stop the puppy food when she is 48 days pregnant.

If you're already adding in wet puppy food to her diet, she's likely getting the boost she needs, but if you feel it's still not quite enough, you can slowly mix in some puppy kibble in as well. I would gradually add it in over a week to avoid any digestive upset this close to her due date.

Hello. It is usually recommended to start a pregnant bitch on a higher calorie food approximately 2-3 weeks before the birth of the litter. This is best accomplished by switching her regular kibble to a puppy formula & continuing until the puppies are weaned.
