My dog had shots, but was near a dog with past parvo. Should I worry?

If Rocky is vaccinated for parvo, he will be safe. If he's not vaccinated, the answer to your question depends on how long ago this dog had parvo. Dogs with parvo can shed the virus for at least two weeks after exposure.

Because Snickers has had his vaccines, as long as they are up to date, he should be protected from parvovirus. By up to date I mean having regular boosters of the vaccine every three years. If it's been longer than three years since he had his last parvo vaccine, then there is a chance he could be susceptible to it. It's fine to keep your shoes outside, it's always better to be safe than sorry in my opinion! I hope this helps!

In theory, she has not mount a response to her vaccines yet so she can still get infected with like parvovirus if those feces were infected with parvovirus. If your dog has been fully vaccinated against parvo (completed a full puppy series of vaccines) then infection is very unlikely. If it has been years since the kennel had a parvo infected dog inside, it is unlikely the virus is still alive. Yes, you should be worried, but if your dog is vaccinated against parvo, then there is no worry. If your dog isn't vaccinated, I would keep a change of clothes to change into in your car when you get home from your boyfriend's place.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. If your other dogs are adults (over 2 years old) and current on their vaccinations, it is very unlikely that they would get parvo - this is almost always a disease of unvaccinated puppies. But, if you have other puppies or young dogs in the house, especially if they are not current on vaccines, then I would be concerned that they may catch it. The virus lives in the environment for years, so I would recommend cleaning everything that your puppy came into contact with using a diluted bleach solution.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is evidence that once a dog has parvo they are protected for life. But I am hoping that your parents have vaccinated her since she was sick? The vaccine also gets distemper which is also contagious. If your parents have never vaccinated their dog I wouldn't bring Kona over there. Even if she is in the crate the virus is all over the house, where ever the dog went. If their dog is vaccinated then Kona should be fine there. I hope this helps!
