Can my unvaccinated puppy get parvo from another dog's paws?

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 1 month and 22 days old | 30 lbs

I am picking up my 8 week old mini Goldendoodle on Saturday. On Sunday, my parents are coming down and bringing their 7-year-old sheltie. The sheltie is in good health and up to date on vaccinations- my dad even called his vet and said no issues meeting my puppy. My puppy will be getting first round of shots the next day. I was wondering, can my puppy pick up parvo if the sheltie goes outside and gets in contact with parvo and then walks back in my house? What can I do to lessen the chances?

Yes, parvo lives in the environment for a very long time. The is not the most common way puppies contract it but is a possibility through people and animals spreading the virus. If there is an area that is contaminated, and the sheltie walks through it, it is then on the shelties feet. If you puppy licks or contact something contaminated, then he will be at risk. The best thing to do is keep the sheltie to a limited area in your yard to minimize his risk of touching it, then wiping his feet when he comes in.

Dirt is not necessarily a problem unless it was potentially contaminated by a dog with Parvo. The best thing to do is avoid taking Jimmy to areas like dog parks, or kennels, or other areas where many dogs have been before.
