Unspayed dog has pain. Is it heat or infection? Should I see a vet?

As she is unspayed i strongly suspect a uterine infection, it can often be missed on blood test and xray. i strongly recommend taking her urgently to the vet for a recheck, an ultrasound needs to be done and bloods needs to be repeated, if this is what i suspect, she will need an emergency surgery to have her uterus removed.

It is possible but since Piper can’t talk, and I can’t preform a physical exam, I can’t say for sure. Back pain, gut pain or a bladder infection are all possible. I recommend to be safe and have her seen by her veterinarian. If she checks out normally, a heating pad applied to her lower abdomen may help-make sure it’s not too hot though, pets can get burned! The question is, is it an vaginal infection or a uterine infection? if she is lethargic, drinking a lot, seems bloated and in pain then it is most likely a pyometra (uterine infection), this will require urgent surgery to have the uterus removed as medical treatment fail to resolve this condition in the vast majority of cases. if she is suffering from a vaginal infection this can be treated with antibiotics prescribed by your vet. either way you will have to take her to a veterinarian ASAP.

That is very concerning. It is very likely that your female has a uterine infection. Unfortunately, if this is treated just with antibiotics, it will come back with the next heat. The treatment of choice is removing the pus-filled uterus. A uterine infection can cause kidney failure and sepsis, so this is a serious condition. Please take your dog to a vet today, if possible.

Based on your description, you say she may be in heat, yet the Pet's info section it states that she is unspayed. If she is not spayed, she could be dealing with something called a pyometra, which is when the uterus fills with pus. This can be a life threatening condition. I would strongly recommend having her examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have Hennessey seen by a vet immediately. I would be very concerned that this heavy bleeding, lethargy, and bloating is caused by a pyometra. A pyometra is a serous infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. Using a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays, the vet can diagnose if she does have a pyometra and can treat her for it. Hi. Yes a heat should not last that long or cause her lethargy. I would be concerned she is having an abnormal hormone balance, or uterine infection, which can be life threatening. The best thing would be to have her seen now at ER and to get her spayed ASAP
