Why does my unspayed female dog have black dots on her vagina?

Girl beagle 2 years old. Unspayed Black dots on her vagina....?

It could be a bacterial infection or a yeast infection. Generally these occur just due to the nature of the skin in the area--the environment is dark in the skin folds, and there is some moisture from the skin and sometimes from urine as well. If it is not bothering her (she is definitely not licking at it, etc) it could also be just waxy secretions/plugged hair follicles, etc. You can try using just plain Witch Hazel (available at any pharmacy) on a cotton swab or pad once or twice a day for a few days to see if that helps; however if it does not help or if this seems to irritate her skin further or if she does not like it when you do this, DO NOT CONTINUE TO ATTEMPT THIS METHOD. Take her to the vet. And if you do try just cleaning it at home, take her in if you aren't seeing an improvement within 2-3 days.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely due to an infection. There is a very good chance that she has been licking at it which will help perpuate the infection. I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. In the meantime, consider using an e-collar to prevent her from licking at it if that is the case. You can find that online or at your local pet store. Good luck and have a good night!

Hello. This is an accumulation of dirt & sebum, somewhat similar to blackheads on us. You can use a moist wipe to clean the area occasionally, but make sure you do not cause any irritation. Those black specks are basically blackheads (comedones) and the bump is likely a follicular cyst. Nothing is too worriesome. I would use a Benzoyl Peroxide product like for acne. NOT hydrogen peroxide. I suggest this one. The ones you buy over the counter for humans are not the correct strength. This product is more concentrated. Could my dog's new black spots around her vagina be from a diaper?

It may be as the moisture from the diaper can create a skin infection and that pigment can be from a yeast infection. It may also be unrelated and due to changes due to the hormones. I would leave the diaper off and keep the area clean and dry. If you notice an odor or it seems to itch and bother her then I would get it checked

These are very common in the inguinal and genital area. They are clinically insignificant and should not cause any problems. I hope this is helpful!

My dog has black dots, discolored skin, and licks her genital area.

Frequent licking generally indicates irritation or infection. Licking around the genital area can also indicate a urinary tract infection. I suspect the discoloring of her skin is related to the licking although some pet's skin will darken as they mature. I would recommend to make an appointment with her vet to have her skin examined and her urine tested to make sure everything is normal. At home, you can wash the areas daily with an antibacterial soap and rinse it well - be careful not put soap in her vulva (vagina). This will help to clean off the skin. There can be many causes of skin irritation or infection including bacterial infections, environmental allergies, food allergies and flea allergies. Why is my dog's vaginal skin black with gunk? Benadryl didn't help.

The black coloring is a pigment that the skin produces when it is chronically inflamed. Most often the skin gets like this when there is an untreated bacterial or yeast infection of the skin. I suggest you try wiping the area 2-3 times per day with these medicated pads. If no improvement after a week or so, then get her back to the vet as they may have to do some testing of the skin. My yorkie has black dirt-like spots on her vulva. What is it?

Hello. Definitely not from fleas. These are probably comedomes, or essentially black heads from some chronic irritation. It is nothing to really worry about, but you can clean the area a couple of times daily with an antibacterial skin cleanser like Hibicles ( available at all pharmacies ). Why does my female dog have bumps on her vulva or genital area?

This presentation could be due to a localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking.
