My unneutered dog's penis was out and he peed the bed. Is it normal?

Yes it is. He could be suffering from priapism, which is an abnormally long-lasting erection. A dog's penis is not meant to be exposed all the time and will dry out and become cracked and covered with debris, like carpet fuzz if this problem is not addressed by your veterinarian right away. If it continues to happen and he is not neutered, I suggest having him neutered as this will lessen the amount of male hormone in his system that can trigger this behavior and condition.

Sometimes the discharge comes out of the prepuce. The production of this substance is decreased when pets are neutered. You can continue to wipe it off it noted but no treatment is needed. I believe this might be a repeat of a previous question I just answered, so I will post the same answer below :-) It sounds like your dog is masturbating. Unneutered dogs can masturbate and ejaculate. This is a normal behavior, and if you don't want this to continue, I recommend having him neutered as soon as possible. He may continue masturbating, especially if he's learned it feels good, but it will stop him from ejaculating.

Sex does not only happen in the gonads but also in the head. A neutered dog can have an erection and that is quite normal. It is not bad for him as long as it goes away before drying out the penis. If you suspect that the penis cannot be withdrawn into the sheath, then I suggest you put vaseline on it to keep it from drying out and take your dog to a vet or Pet ER.

That is likely "smegma", a normal discharge in intact males. You can have your veterinarian exam him for confirmation. Monitor for excessive discharge or licking or for bloody discharge or difficulty urinating.

Oliver is masturbating, which is a normal behavior in dogs. Even though he's neutered, he's likely continuing the behavior because he has learned that it feels good. If this behavior bothers you, I recommend trying to distract him from doing it. It's best to get his attention before he starts masturbating. If you see him starting to act like he is going to masturbate, throw him a toy, start playing with him, or ask him to perform an obedience skill (i.e. sit, stay, etc.).
