My 14-week-old puppy won't come when called. How can I train her?

hi i have a akita and she doesnt come to me when i call her and she doesnt listen to me what should i do she is 14 weeks old

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At 14 weeks old, she doesn’t understand commands or her name. I recommend keep working with her but use things like clapping, slapping your leg, jumping up and down to get her attention to come to you. When she does, give her a lot of praise and make
It fun. Over the next few months, you can add her name and command words, like “come”, but it will take time for her to understand. I recommend using a leash during training so you can get her attention and so she can follow you and understand what you are asking her. Good luck and kisses to Princess!

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Snow is very very cute!! 5 weeks is very young. In the US we do not recommend puppies be removed from their mothers that young. Snow is to young to learn commands and come when called. I promise you with time and as he grows he will learn his name and come. Just practice a few times per day for only a few minutes. Puppies tire easily. It is very common at 5 weeks to appear deaf and like they can't see. It is just immaturity! I hope this helps and have fun with your new puppy!

How to stop my 8-month-old dog from ignoring me and running away?

I would encourage you to contact a dog trainer that can work with you and her in person to really take care of this behavior. When to start puppy potty, leash training, and name recognition?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 5 weeks is a bit young. You can practice her name now but anything else will be frustrating for you. Most dogs are still with their mothers at 5 weeks. I would start with the leash at 8 weeks and training at 10-12 weeks. Good luck!

My Shih-Poo puppy won't come when called outside. What do I do?

That is quite tricky. What you need to do it work on developing a "bullet proof" recall ("come" command) first instead the house, then inside the gate, then outside the gate on a leash, then outside the gate without a leash. At the same time, you need to work on impulse control and general attentiveness, again starting inside and taking it outside. I would highly highly recommend working with a qualified trainer on this, it's possible to do on your own, but will be hard enough with an experienced helper. Good luck!

Puppies love treats so you just need to make sure you associate these commands with positive things such as treats to distract him. It will require persistence and consistency so stay there, you are doing well. Puppies just require some time while they learn but he will get there. Good luck and have a good evening!
