What's the best way to train an 80-day-old puppy we just adopted?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Congratulations!! Bruno is adorable! Bruno needs to start his puppy vaccines. He should receive a DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parvo and parainfluenza) vaccine every 3-4 weeks starting around 7-8 weeks of age until he receives two past 12 weeks. He should get his rabies vaccine between 12-16 weeks. He can start being dewormed as well. Having him dewormed and Rabies vaccination will protect your family. Keep up with his vaccinations into adulthood as they do have expiration dates. Deworm yearly. I recommend puppy food until 1 year of age. I like Purina proplan, hills science diet and Royal Canin. As a puppy his energy level is like a new born. Play for a bit then sleep. Around 4 months they are awake more. So playing with him when awake and 2-3 walks a day are appropriate. SO sorry! My computer does this sometimes. To continue: let him come to you when he is ready. Do not let children chase him around. Establish where his eating and sleeping places will be, and keep his routine stable while he gets his bearings. I hope you have a crate for him! This should be his bed at night. He may cry the first few nights . . . it is VERY importand not to respond in any way (just be sure all his needs have been met before you put him in it). Crying means he is looking for attention, and even negative attention would be welcome. Do not give him any, or it will just make things worse. He may not eat at first. That is not unusual, as he may be nervous or anxious in his new home. Do not try to bribe him with foor or treats. When he is hungry, he will eat. Establish his bathroom area and take him to it frequently. Use a phrase like "Go outside!" and, if he does, repeat the phrase and praise him. If you catch him going in the house, do not let him finish. Take him outside and do as above. Keep him attached to you by his leash (you can slide it through your belt loop to keep your hands free). This way, you will know whyen he has to go (circling and sniffing) and get him right out the door. Never scold the dog for any bad behavior after the fact. You can feed according tot the directions on the bag, just know that each puppy is different and you may need to adjust the amount if Coqueta is gaining too much weight or not enough weight. Avoid store or discount brands as these may contain low quality ingredients and more fillers. Puppies typically need to go about about 20-30 minutes after eating, sleeping or playing. Expect accidents, they are going to happen. Since dogs thrive on routine, start a consistent schedule for potty breaks; first thing in the morning, midday, evening and before bedtime to begin with. Choose one spot in the yard and use it for bathroom training. She can have a short walk or playtime after she does her business. Praise and reward her each time. Avoid areas with other dogs and dogs of unknown vaccine status until she has at least 2 rounds of vaccines. Training is still needed with all puppies and dogs, and enrolling Sitka in a puppy training class is a good way to help socialize him correctly in a safe environment. You can also find a trainer who can do sessions with you at home if scheduling is an issue for training classes. 50 days old is still extremely young and Hachiko probably isn't old enough to hold his potty very long yet. He will likely need to go out at least every 1-2 hours, and about 10-15 minutes after eating, drinking, playing, and waking up. You can use this to your advantage to start taking him outside to go potty before he has an accident so he learns to go outside. If you want him to go in a certain area, then use these times to take him to that spot so he learns to go there. You can start training your puppy right away :) The best way to train is to use treats to show Tukas what you want him to do, then reward with the treat when he gets it right. You can teach sit, lie down, stay, come, and heel this way very easily with most puppies.
