How to tell if my dog is a purebred Rottweiler or a Doberman mix?

Congratulations on your new puppy! While it's hard to know just by looking at her, I don't suspect Rottweiler in the background. German Shepherds carry the gene for black and tan (like a Rott does) but this gene is modified by another gene for the saddle marking. Cleo did not get the gene for a saddle and so the black and tan is expressed normally. The best way to know for sure what is in Cleo's back ground is with a genetic breed analysis. To accurately know your dogs breed it would be based on both of Duke's parents being registered with a legitimate registration organization like the AKC. That is the only way you could prove to someone buying Duke's puppies, if you chose to breed him. Without proof of lineage it is hard. You may have to wait until he is full grown to see how he looks. There are DNA blood tests that can help but personally I think the accuracy isn't the best. Hi there. I'm afraid it's not possible to tell what breed a puppy is just by looking at a photo, as coat color and length, general body shape, etc. often change a great deal as puppies grow. From what I can see, he looks like a medium-to-large breed of some sort. Possibly some kind of retriever mix, but that's just a guess. If you don't have any information about his parents, your best bet would be to have a DNA test such as a Wisdom panel done. This would give you more information about what breed (or mix of breeds) he is, which would allow you to make a more educated guess about his adult size and weight.

Both of those breeds have a longer coat and based on the photos Paris has a short coat rigth now, however she may develop one as she gets older. It is difficult to tell at this age, especially when you are dealing with a mixed dog, because you can have a mix of characteristic traits that don't completely look like one breed or another. I would allow the pup to grow up a bit more then re-assessing, or I would consider having a dog DNA test done through your local vet. They really are quite affordable and require a quick blood sample. You will also gain valuable intimation on what genetic predispositions she has and what diseases she may develop later in life. I would start there if you are looking for an accurate assessment right now. We are only right about 30% of the time when using visualization only in a puppy this young. Maltipoo/lab i seriously doubt it, Chihuahua/lab i can maybe see it. The only way to know for sure if it is a pure breed is to have a DNA test done. many companies offer this service and the process is easy and quite cheap. this is just one example: http://dnamydog.com/

Awww, very cute! She looks like a cross between a Rottweiler and a Labrador Retriever. If you are really curious as to an exact answer, there are dog DNA tests available that make are supposed to be able to reveal exact genetic make up of a canine. Hope this helps!
