How to stop my puppy from pooping in the kitchen when alone?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 months and 13 days old | 26 lbs

I have trained my puppy to poop outside but whenever he sees my kitchen door open and no one is around , he sneaks in and poops there which is sometimes really annoying as I go out and come back with the house smelling like dog shit . I have tried giving him treats on not going to the kitchen but somehow he goes to that place in the kitchen and poops or piss. Can you please advise how To get him away from kitchen boundaries ?

He is still very young so it may take some more time to be fully potty trained. The best thing would be to never let him out of your sight when inside so he does't have the opportunity to go in the kitchen alone. If you can't watch him then he should be in a crate while inside the house. When he goes outside, give him a treat with a lot of praise. With time, he will master potty training.
