My puppy barks for attention. How can I stop demand barking?

Patience is key. Continue to reinforce the "No bark" command. Try to determine the cause for barking (boredom, hunger, stress, anxiety,etc) and decrease or eliminate the stimuli. This is a very tough situation. If you're serious about Max getting better, I would recommend scheduling an appointment with a veterinary behaviorist to get to the bottom of the problem. This is a good place to look: https://avsab.org/directory/ While you're waiting for your appointment, make sure you aren't punishing him for this behavior (because punishments can make it worse), avoid all situations in which it occurs, when you are on walks take really great treats with you and use them to keep his attention on you if you have to walk pasted another dog (but avoiding all together would still be better). Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would recommend using the gentle leader harness for the muzzle as it allows the most wonderful control of the head. I would highly recommend a trainer or working diligently with Gnocchi (GREAT name for a Corgi by the way) on the "look" and "leave it" command while using the gentle leader. If a few months of training doesn't help I would use a short-acting sedative or long acting anti-anxiety medications to help along with training. The goal of medicating wouldn't be forever but to gain control of the situation, so worse case a a year or so. I would also suggest castration if you are still struggling. Good luck!

Yes training can help and this is a common problem with this breed. You can try shock collars or bark collars that spray to discourage that behavior. You can look into having someone come to your house to help

Your best option is to have a professional trainer come to your home and evaluate her during these situations. They will be able to give you the best advice. Behavior issues are not quick fixes and if you don't know what you are doing you could make the dog worse instead of better. These types of behaviors should be handled by a professional. You need to catch this before she gets worse. The longer this goes on, the harder it will be to rectify (especially in a dog like a German Shepherd). I don't know where you are located so just do a google search for in-home professional dog trainers in your area or you can probably get a reference from your veterinarian. I strongly recommend you consult with a professional, in-home dog trainer. You need a trainer to come to your house so they can see the behavior and the interaction of all the family members with Max. This is your best bet. Aggression problems need special care and it is not recommended that you try to correct this on your own. You may give him the wrong signals and make him worse. Especially with his breed you need to do this correctly and since his life start was not good that plays into his issues. This is a situation that definitely needs professional intervention.
