My puppy bites me and furniture. How can I stop this behavior?

Congratulations on your new puppy! It takes some time for puppies to learn to mind their manners. I recommend making sure that Percy has plenty of toys to chew on as his adult teeth are coming in. As you are playing with Percy and he starts biting, you should stop playing and tell Percy "no" and only begin paying attention to him again once he is calm. Chewing is a common behavior for puppies. Every time you play with him and he bites your hands, make sure to tell him no and give him something approvednto chew on and bite. Tug of war can lead to hand biting even if. It in purpose as they are just trying to win, so you may want to avoid that game. Make sure you rotate the toys out.. if they get the same toy all the time he will get bored and not want them anymore. When he is with you and chews on furniture you have to tell him no and replace it with an approved object. If you are not able to watch him, he needs to be in a kennel so he can't destroy anything or injury himself with chewing inappropriate objects. It does get better with age, so hang in there!!

If you are playing with her and she bites you, just redirect her to one of her toys and use that to play with her instead. If she bites your hands when you pet her, calmly stop petting and wait for her to settle down. I would not attempt negative reinforcement such as striking Olie or speaking harshly as this will potentially create more serious behaviour issues such as anxiety and fear-aggression. Try some calm corrections and positive reinforcement. If Olie bites you, simply say in a calm voice "no" and stop interacting with her for a few moments. This over time will teach him that biting is not a desired form of play. Also try reinforcing him as he starts to play in a good way by not biting, and give him a small training treat. If Olie does manage to bite hard enough to break the skin be careful of a possible infection. Monitor your wound for heat. Swelling, or discharge. Make an appointment with your doctor if this occurs. If you are struggling with the biting after a couple of weeks of the above suggested training methods, consider puppy socialisation classes or potentially a few sessions with a behaviourist. Other games which may be fun with Olie to redirect him in he is biting too rough, are hide and go seek either with you and another person, or you hide his toys and he has to find them.
