The most important thing in getting a lesion relating to self-inflicted harm to heal will be to prevent any continued harm from occurring. This will likely involve obtaining an e-collar from your local vet or pet store and fitting it on Sugar. You can also put something like a t-shirt on the area depending on where it is. Also, without seeing the lesion, I can not advise you on whether or not an infection may be occurring and if antibiotics might be required. The itchiness from the lesion is not likely to stop until the healing process has at least partially started. It's good that she can't chew but that doesn't fix the underlying condition. Being itchy is miserable and you don't want her uncomfortable. The two most important things are to prevent further injury (good job on getting the cone) and to stop the underlying problem. You must get the fleas off of her, otherwise she will be itchy (and thus unhappy) but she will also want to chew on herself as soon as the cone is off. The flea shampoo will last for about 24 hours but beyond that, she does not have any protection. If you can't get the recommended products, you can try Frontline. It doesn't kill fleas as quickly and there can be some resistance issues but it is better than most over the counter products. Please post again with any further questions.

Looks like your little lady is giving herself some hot spots there. If there is a hot spot forming under the hair then the best thing to do is to remove the hair and cleanse the area with an antibacterial solution. Some dogs require topical and/or oral antibiotics and other dogs benefit from some steroids to stop the itch. Most hot spots are secondary to underlying allergies (inhaled/environmental, food, or flea). If seasonal environmental is most likely. The best way to help her would be to see your family vet to have the areas addressed topically and so that medications can be prescribed to treat any infection and stop the itch. I recommend you get him checked by your vet - it is likely the damaged skin has become infected and very painful, hence the biting and snapping towards the area. It is likely he will need antibacterial and antifungal washes and possibly antiinflammatory medication to allow the skin to heal. An omega fatty acid supplement and rigorous flea prevention (including household flea spray to kill the eggs and larvae) are also recommended

Those spots on Lucy could be several things including allergies to fleas, allergies to something in the environment, food allergy or endocrine disease. Each one of these problems is detected and addressed differently and I recommend to discuss with your veterinarian which one to start hunting down first. Parasites are often ruled out with an oral medication like Simparica. Food allergy is best ruled out with a diet trial using a hydrolyzed protein. Endocrine diseases are detected with blood work. Environmental allergies are a little more difficult to detect but a response to therapy or a blood test can give an indication. Once you figure out and address the underlying cause, the lesions should not come back. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Poor Neffi. if the flea prevention doesn't seem to be helping, talk with your veterinarian about switching her to Simparica. Oral flea preventions are best for dogs who are allergic to fleas because they kill fleas 4x faster than topicals. This means Neffi gets less flea bites and thus has less reaction. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions with soap once a day and rinse well (don't wash her whole body, just those spots). Protect the areas from licking or scratching by having her wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesion doesn't start looking better within about a week or if it gets worse, have her examined by her veterinarian who may prescribe medications. You’re right that it can be hard to tell if the cuts came first or after the licking started. It’s possible that the skin was irritated (we call it clipper burn) after grooming, and since dogs lick areas that are uncomfortable, it makes the whole situation worse. The best thing to do is to prevent Pepper from licking anymore. He can wear an e-collar/come for a few days. If the skin isn’t looking better 24 hours after wearing the cone, it may need medications so Pepper should get checked out by his vet.
