My 2-month-old chihuahua puppy won't stop biting. What can I do?

You are likely describing teething which is basically a normal type of behavior when puppies are growing up and it is secondary to mouth discomfort as teeth are growing. I recommend that you get her teething type toys which you can get at your local pet store or online. Anytime that she tries to nibble at you, you say no and give her the toy. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Nova is adorable! Play biting is very normal in puppy-hood, though at 6 months this should be significantly improved or resolved. Never use your hands to play with her or rile her up. Only offer toys. The minute she gets crazy and starts lunging for your hands, etc you need to make her sit or lay down. Always have treats on you to reward her when she listens. If she is too worked up and not listening, put her in a 5 minute time out. Try to have a leash on her at all times, I really like the muzzle gentle leader harnesses as it allows great head control. That way you can easily pull her off you. She should know how to look and leave it on command. If you are reaching a plateau with training I recommend hiring a trainer to focus on your areas of concern. Professionals can really help when we have exhausted what we can do alone. Exercise is also important: frequent walks and play time or consider doggie daycare a few times per week. This is a common problem in puppies and young dogs, as they sometimes need help figuring out how to appropriately play with humans, and what objects/toys are okay to chew on. I also strongly recommend working with a reputable dog trainer in your area who uses positive reinforcement techniques to make sure Osito is not accidentally getting mixed signals that are making him think that biting is ok. Taking Osito to a puppy class to help his burn off some excess energy and learn how to play appropriately is also very important, as is regular exercise that can provide an outlet for his energy.

With Typsy's age she is currently teething. When Typsy bites you I would tell her no and swap your hand out with something she can chew on like a toy. I would also make sure when playing with her you are not using your hands, instead make sure you are using toys. With training her, if you are looking for potty training tips I would recommend crate training. The crate should be small enough for her to stand up, turn around and lay down. I would take her outside and see if she goes to the bathroom and if she does then keep her out and watch her 100%. When you have to turn your back I recommend putting her back in the crate. If you take her outside and she does not go to the bathroom then I recommend putting her back in the crate. If you find an accident just clean it up and don't say anything. If you catch her in the act then I recommend telling her no and then taking her outside to go to the bathroom and praise her when she goes. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern! Biting is a normal puppy behavior and will subside with time most likely. A couple of things you can do to help stop this behavior is to stick your thumb in Tommy's mouth every time he bites and hold your thumb in the mouth until he finds it annoying. If he comes back to bite after, repeat this again and again. Eventually, I find that the puppies will just walk up and lick your hand after a while because they do not want your thumb being stuck in their mouth. If that does not work, you can use a spray bottle filled with water and spritz Tommy in the face while saying "off" to help deter the behavior. I hope this helps! I would add more walks or play time. Consider enrolling her in doggie daycare a few times per week. Otherwise I would have a leash on her at all times and when she starts this behavior, pull her down, make her sit and remove her from the situation. Consider 5-10 mins in "time out" in another room or crate. Then exercise her. I hope this helps!

One recommendation I have for all new puppy owners is to go to a puppy training class. Even if you've raised puppies before it's always a great refresher course for you and Olie has never been to school before. Right now she's probably a little bit too young, you do want to make sure she's had several set of vaccinations and your veterinarian says she is healthy enough to go to class.
