My 7-week-old puppy constantly nips. How do I stop this behavior?

First off, I highly recommend a beginner training class with Nero, and also getting him into something fun and active such as agility or flyball, as Sheepdogs are extremely smart and extremely prone to boredom. Sometimes, having a focused training class or activity can help get out that energy and put your dog to work so they are less likely to become bored and destructive. As for nipping, there are a few things you can try out: Have a toy or bone handy that you can put in Nero's mouth when he gets excited to give him something to chew on and be mouthy with other than your hands/arms. If he picks up a toy on his own, be sure to give him lots of praise to help teach him this is a good thing. If walking away or yelping doesn't help, teaching him something such as "settle" can help him to focus on calming down and relaxing instead of ramping up the behavior with more excitement. Grabbing his collar and holding him down is likely just exciting him more, but focusing on training such as sit, down, settle, etc can divert his focus into something productive instead. Practice "airplaning" treats. This involves having Nero sit and slowly bringing a treat down to him. If he jumps up or gets excited, you have him sit again and start over. Once he can focus on staying still, he gets the treat. This can help teach some impulse control and reduce excitement behavior. Give him a job! Redirect his attention by telling him to go find a specific toy or bone. This can help him get out that excited energy and focus on chewing on the toy, instead of jumping all over you.

Simba is a great age for starting puppy kindergarten! This is a beginner obedience class and can help the both of you learn how to speak each other's language, tire Simba out, and get some basic behaviors started. Looking for a positive reinforcement class specifically for puppies is best, and be sure to check how many vaccines Simba needs in order to enroll. At home, you can help stop nipping behavior by yelping "ouch!" as high pitched as you can to mimic a litter mate that was played with too roughly. You can also simply stand up and walk away, stopping the play session. Once Simba is calm, you can then start playtime again. This will help teach him that getting too excited and nippy is no fun because it stops play. Giving him a treat when he calmly plays or chews on his own toys can also help to teach him what you want him to chew on instead of your hands.

I would recommend starting on some basic commands with Panda. This would include sit, come and stay. That way when Panda starts to chew on your feet you can re direct her into a basic command. I would reward her with a treat so he knows that the command is the way she should be acting, I would also recommend starting her in puppy training classes to help with her attention. You mentioned that Ryder was 3 weeks old, but she is listed as 3 months old in the description, so I am going to presume that she is 3 months old. Pit puppies are generally very food motivated and eager to please, so you do not need or want her to be overly hungry or energetic before trying to do a training session. Take her on a walk first and let her get her energy out before a training session. And keep her training sessions short. Puppies have VERY short attention spans. When you are working with her, make sure you are not bending over or putting the treat too close to her that she is air nipping. You want to be able to stand up and give her a command and have her pay attention. Another trick you may want to use is to use a clicker or squeaky toy to get her attention when using her name, then treat reward her. There are a number of good training techniques. Play biting and being excessively "mouthy" is very common in puppies. (And at 9 months old, Floyd is certainly still a puppy.) I have not personally had luck with the techniques of saying "No!" or holding the muzzle. I that makes puppies more excited. My general rule for puppies is that you make a high pitched squeak (like a littermate puppy would do if they bit too hard), then walk away from the situation. More than anything, your puppy wants to play with you. If you walk away, it is negative reinforcement, so they are less likely to do that behavior again. Depending on the puppy, the goal is to get them to look away from you or start doing something else before you engage in play again. I found that a long rope toy made a good toy to play with my puppy because there was lots of toy for him to bite at without touching my skin. Especially if Floyd is biting down, it is vital that he NEVER puts his teeth on a person. If he does, then you need to walk away and the play session is over. It will take a while, but he will get it. I also found that allowing my puppy to play with other dogs was a great way for him to learn what is appropriate play. I took my dog to doggy day care twice a week as a puppy which really helped with his energy level as well as appropriate play technique. And finally, start a puppy class. A basic obedience class is so important for a puppy. They want to behave, but don't know what to do with their energy. And Floyd is a herding breed dog, so he is smart with a lot of energy, so he needs a good outlet for his energy. I hope that was helpful! Good luck! Puppies generally explore the world with their mouths, so deterring the behavior can help. Limiting Wolverine's access to areas if unsupervised can also help preventing chewing of dangerous of valuable items. If Wolverine is getting a little too excited, one way to stop the nipping behavior is to simply get up, walk away, and stop the play session. Once he has calmed down, you can start playing again, and offer a treat every time he plays nicely or chews on his own toys instead of you. Trading out your hands and fingers for an appropriate toy, and then giving lots of pets or a treat when he chews on that instead can also help teach him that those are things you want nibbled instead of you or the environment!

This is a typical behavior in puppies, especially boxer puppies from what I have seen in my experience. With cases like these, I recommend keeping a collar with a leash attached to him at all times so that you can pick up the leash and correct this behavior right away. If he starts to jump up you then grab the leash and give a firm tug downward and in a stern voice say "off!". If this does not work alone, you can also incorporate a spray bottle filled with water and also lightly spritz him in the face with the water bottle while at the same time tugging on his leash in a downward direction and say "off!". You need to let him know that you are in control of him at all times and by establishing this, he should listen more. I would also reward him with treats when he listens to you so that you can reinforce the good behavior. I hope this helps!
