This all depends on the severity and cause. If it’s very mild allergies, a shampoo like Duoxo Calm can help strengthen the skin barrier and decrease itching. (Bathe once to twice weekly during flare ups and try to leave the lather on for 5 minutes if possible.) If there is already a skin infection, hot spot, or it’s a hypersensitivity or flea/tick problem, you’ll need to visit your vet to get the proper treatment. It looks like from your pictures that Jasper could have a skin infection, and that could be caused by bacteria, yeast, allergies, or a fungal infection. The best thing you can do is take him into the vet on Monday. The vet can diagnose what is causing his skin irritation, and can give him a treatment for it. You should try soothing oatmeal shampoo (can be by TropiClean or Burt's Bees - both available online and at pet shops) - it will give Flip some relief. Once your vet is fully open, please take Flip for an appointment as he may need a prescription-only shampoo or anti-allergic tablets.

If you bought it over the counter (OTC), no prescription is needed. Directions for use should be on the container. Do not bathe more often than directed since this may make the itching worse and can dry out the skin. Try to determine the underlying cause of the itch. This may require a visit and exam with your veterinarian. Causes may include skin infection, external parasites, allergies or food sensitivities.
