My Jindo rescue dogs are fearful and hyper. How do I help them?
I'm sorry to hear that you're having this problem with Maddy and Kenneth! Unfortunately, if they were rescued from a meat farm, it's likely that they were never properly socialized as young puppies. This doesn't mean that there is nothing you can do now to help them - but it does mean that they may never be "normal", cuddly, friendly dogs no matter what you do.
If you want to keep Maddy and Kenneth, you will need to give them lots of time and space to get comfortable in your home. This could take months, or even years in some cases. You may want to try DAP pheromone diffusers to help make them more comfortable, along with a natural calming supplement like Composure or Zylkene.
If you have a veterinary behaviorist in your area, I would strongly suggest making an appointment for an in-person consultation. He/she can evaluate both dogs and help you set realistic goals for them, and will also help you put together a detailed plan to help build their confidence and encourage them to be more social with you.
