My senior dog has skin tags on his head. Could they be cancerous?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | unneutered | 13 years and 8 months old

My 13 year old dachshund has what I thought were skin tags appearing on his head, face and chest over the last few years or so starting with a small spot on his eyelid. I recently noticed how bad one really looks. Should I be concerned?

Hi, from the looks of these pictures if could be that Pluto is getting warts or cysts on his body. He should be taken to a vet to have them checked to make sure they are not cancerous and need to be removed. Cancerous masses will often grow in short amounts of time and can be red and raised. For peace of mind, have them checked out by a vet and removed if necessary. Good luck with him!
