My senior dog has pyometra. Can she avoid surgery with holistic care?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | unspayed | 13 years and 1 month old | 23 lbs

My 13 yr old pug was diagnosed with pyometra. She is on medication right now but I'm wondering if there is something holistic I could give her?? They suggest surgery but unfortunately I don't believe she would make it through. :) Valerie

Surgery is in most of the cases the resolutive treatment and, if performed by an expert surgeon, it does not last more than 30 minutes, especially in small dogs.
Medical treatment rarely is very effective. I would recommend to discuss with your veterinarian pros and cons of the anesthesia.
Unfortunately holistic treatment won't be effective at this stage and for this type of disease.
