My senior dog has lumps, cough, and trouble drinking. What's wrong?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 13 lbs

My dog is 14, over the last year he has been getting lumps over his body. He has gotten severe lumps over the last couple of months which seem to have impacted his drinking since one has formed by his throat. He does not like to be touched or moved which is abnormal for him. He has a cough that has developed over the last couple of days which aren't getting any better. The last vet I went to was of no help.

I'm sorry to hear Taco isn't doing well. Unfortunately, to determine what is going on, he'd need to be examined in person. It would be best to have your vet perform a few tests such as bloodwork (to check organ function and for any illness), an X-ray (to check the throat for obstructions or the growth pressing on his chest or lungs) and a possible sample of the lumps to determine what they are (fatty tumors, growths, cysts, cancerous tumors, etc). Your vet can then help you determine what the best course of action would be for helping Taco feel more comfortable.
