Why is my senior schnauzer losing balance, falling, and tilting his head?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | unneutered

I was walking my dog today and he started to lose his balance and eventually fell over. Blood on his face. He’s been leaning and tilting his head every now in then ever since. I forgot to mention that he’s a 13 year old schnauzer. We can’t afford to take him to the vet or we may not be able to eat for a while. Im not sure if this will help but he had pancreatitis last year. I really want to help him. Any idea whats wrong? And can I do anything to help?

It could be either a severe ear infection or vestibular disease, you must take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated. If money is an issue please contact a dog charity in your area of living, they can help with costs of treatment in many cases. Many vets also have payment plans, and there is also a credit company that will land you money toward vet bills ( https://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/) .
