Why is my senior dog lethargic and not eating? What should I do?

Yes it would be best to have her seen. Decreased appetite and lethargy are very common symptoms of many diseases, many of which may be treatable. The best way to know what is going on (diagnosis), how serious it is, and how to help her feel better is to have her seen. Hello. I am sorry to hear your pug isn't feeling well. If your dog is dull and lethargic, and not wanting to eat, it could be a sign of something stuck in her stomach or intestines, or a gastritis/pancreatitis. I would suggest having her seen by a veterinarian. Alternatively, you can cook her boneless, skinless, boiled chicken breast and some boiled rice. If she eats this and keeps it down, I would feed her small meals of this for a couple days, and see if she gets better. If she does then it was mild gastritis, but if she vomits or continues to be lethargic I would bring her to a vet right away.

Poor Charlie! There are several things that can cause him to be lethargic and not eat like kidney or liver disease, an infection, a tumor/cancer, general GI upset, parasites, and much more. Since he has an extensive medical history and he isn't eating well and lethargic, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him asap. Your vet will be able to do a fecal, blood work and even x-rays if needed. They will be able to recommend the best treatment plan for him to help him feel better! I hope this helps!

Poor girl. She may have an internal illness that is causing her to not want to eat and have excessive drinking. Several things could be causing this including a bacterial infection, liver or kidney disease. I would recommend offering her some canned dog food or boiled plain chicken and rice to see if that entices her to eat. However, if she has not eaten after 24 hrs, or seems to be declining at any point, its best to get her seen by your vet for a proper exam and some diagnostic tests (i.e. bloodowork) to help identify the underlying problem so that we know how to best help her. Old age isn't a disease, so I would be concerned that Turner's lethargy and anorexia is caused by a medical problem. The problem is that these symptoms can be caused by many things such as heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, and cancer to name a few. Keep an eye on him tonight, and if he's still this way in the morning, take him into the vet. Try to tempt him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice. You can also try soaking his dog food in gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese. Lili is experiencing very general symptoms of disease, these symptoms could fit almost any internal condition, maybe she is suffering from nausea due to a gastrointestinal disease and maybe she is in pain, from the symptoms described it's very hard to know. i would recommend taking her to the vet as soon as possible in order to get her checked, if she doesn't show any other obvious symptoms during the examination, a blood test and possibly an ultrasound will be needed in order to try and find out what is wrong with her.
