My senior dog faints and pees when excited. What could be wrong?

I am sorry to hear that Max isn’t doing well. Collapsing events are commonly associated with heart disease, but other problems such as anemia or cancers could cause similar signs. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. X-rays and/ or Blood work may be recommended to help define the diagnosis. It sounds suspicious for a seizure . Kayla could have a seizure for a few reasons. The most common is epilepsy but toxins, liver disease or brain tumors can also cause seizures. I would recommend to take him into the vet asap for a neurologic exam and bloodwork. This will help to narrow down what caused this. Keep him quiet until his visit and encourage him to drink water. It's less likely to be due to heat but rather other underlying issues like heart disease (arrhythmias, enlargement), respiratory disease (high pressures in his lungs), or even anemia or cancer. Given his age and these possible causes I recommend Rex see his veterinarian for an exam.

It almost sounds like you are describing narcolepsy/cataplexy. This is a disease that is usually inherited so it would be strange for you to seen signs now, although it can be associated with some other diseases. Other possibilities would be a heart condition, hypoglycemia related to pancreatic disease, or neurologic diseases like myasthenia gravis. I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian. It could be helpful for you to video an episode before your appointment if possible.

Urinating in an episode like you are describing is usually caused either by a seizure, which often occurs at night, or by a 'syncopal' or fainting episode from heart disease. There are other causes as well however these would be the two that I would be most concerned about. With it being at night, a seizure is more likely, as fainting from heart disease usually occurs when they get excited and are more active. The reason they pee themselves in these episodes is because they lose consciousness. I would recommend having Riley seen by your vet. They will listen to his heart as well as maybe check some bloodwork and maybe check his urine. Best of luck with Riley.

That is very concerning and I would be worried about a neurologic issue such as seizure, or a functional nerve/muscle issue. If this has happened multiple times it would be best to bring Jack into your vet for a thorough senior wellness exam and testing such as bloodwork to rule out serious issues.

It sounds like your dog is experiencing either seizure or aneurysm like activity, or may be experiencing cardiorespiratory problems. Both of these warrant immediate attention and can result in death if they go untreated. Prognosis is unknown until more is known about the cause of the symptoms. While I understand your position, please understand that without attention this may not have a good outcome.
