Why is my senior dog suddenly destroying his crate and escaping?

It sounds like poor Jack has severe separation anxiety. Some dogs will adapt well to their crate and it will help with the anxiety, but other require additional help in the form of medication. I recommend having him seen by a vet first thing on Monday. You can discuss with your vet his anxiety problems, and the vet can talk about medication options to help him deal with his anxiety. Unfortunately some dogs just need that extra help because their anxiety is so severe, and it sound like Jack could be one of those dogs. I hope this helps!

This is sometimes made worse in a kennel, though for many dogs the kennel makes it better. I recommend talking to your veterinarian about anti-anxiety medication for him. I notice he is 25 lbs so I’m assuming he is not yet full grown. For a puppy, one of the most important things you can do for anxiety and decreasing destruction is exercise and training. A husky puppy needs about 1-2 HOURS of hard play or running per day. It could Bella is suffering from separation anxiety. I recommend crating him when you are gone. The crate will provide her a small space where she can feel safe in it when you are gone. You will have to slowly train her to get used to a crate. Start putting her in it when you are home and sitting nearby so she doesn't think you are abandoning her, and slowly increase the time she is in it. She can have toys in the crate, and puzzle toys with treats in it that she has to figure out how to get the treats out. You can put a tablespoon of peanut butter in a Kong toy and freeze it in the freezer overnight, then give it to her in the crate. That will keep her occupied for a while. Finally, you can get a pheromone diffuser called DAP that helps dogs with anxiety and pair that with a DAP pheromone collar that releases pheromones when in contact with her skin. If these methods do not help her, then I recommend having her seen by a vet to discuss the use of anti-anxiety medications. I hope this helps!
