Hello. This is a great question! She should be eating about 500 -550 calories PER DAY which includes all food and treats. She can eat any food as long as she stays inside that calorie window. If you feed her a lower calorie diet then she will get to eat more food and be less hungry. This depends on how many calories each treat is. What I usually recommend is seeing how many calories Nero should be getting with the dog food and then subtracting the amount of calories you are giving in treats from the main diet to ensure you are not feeding excessive calories. I probably would not feed more than 3-5 treats per day if you are feeding them in addition to the diet. You can also use the diet as treats and set some aside as training treats to ensure you are not overfeeding. I hope this helps! If Bella is on a well balanced quality dog food AND an ideal weight, she should be getting about 700 calories a day and no more than 10% (70 calories) should be coming from treats. So the cup amount would depend on the food (70 calories = 3/4 cup blueberries or pumpkin puree, or a little over a cup of cubed apples). The 2 ounce difference should not cause a problem but if she seems hungry then you could just add a little bit of the dry to the canned food. Those treats have a lot of calories in them and with 3 small dogs that’s an excess of calories. I would relate that to a human eating a doughnut. Three humans should not eat 40 doughnuts daily. I suspect your dogs are only picking at their dry food because they are eating mainly treats as their diet. Treats also do not have the right vitamins and minerals to promote proper bodily functions. I would recommend 1 snack per dog per day. If you would like for them to find food while you are at work, I would use their regular dog kibble. I hope this helps. Kisses to your pups!
