Why is my senior dog biting pink skin growths? Should I remove them?

From the looks of the pictures, they look like benign adenomas or skin tags which are common in older dogs. If she is chews at them, you could try 50mg (2 tablets) of adult benadryl twice a day to help with the itching. You can also place a cone collar on her to prevent the chewing. If the chewing won't stop, any of them start to look infected, or any of them are getting bigger, then I would recommend to see a vet to ensure they do not look cancerous.

This looks like it could be a growth and it's clearly bothering him if he's biting at it. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Hello. From the pictures it is very hard to see what is going on with Maxx. I would recommend having the mass surgically removed and sent for histopathology to determine exactly what it is. Your vet will take as large margins as possible in case it is cancerous. It could be just a wart, or could be a parasite, however since there are multiple and growing I would suggest having it removed to determine exactly what it is. Good luck with Maxx!

Pain and/or changes in behavior are not indications of a cancerous mass (the vast majority of cancerous masses are not painful and do not cause changes in behavior) but it does sound like the mass is bothering (and possibly hurting) Maverick. The only way to know what the mass is and if it is cancerous is to collect a sample of cells to examine under the microscope. Have him examined by the veterinarian within the next 24 hours. if he will wear an elizabethan collar, it will help to protect the mass from further trauma. I hope this helps.

This could be a benign skin mass like a wart or a lipoma or could be something more serious like a mast cell tumor. My best recommendation is to take Mara to the veterinarian so a fine needle aspirate and cytology can be performed. Hello. Are these warts? These are the most common non-cancerous growths we see, & they are especially common on poodles. If surgery concerns you, please talk to your vet about freezing the growths off using a special liquid nitrogen product available to vets called Verruca Freeze. I do recommend all abnormal growths be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if they are an issue or not. Many of these can be diagnosed with an analysis of a needle sample. Good luck!
