How to get rid of bird mites in my home and treat my dog's sore paws?

Hi, we resently found out that our house is full of bird mites. They bite all of us. How do I get rid of these in my home and on the dog and I. Are bird mites in the tick family? I have to do this myself cause I have no way to pay exterminators. Also my dog is old and always seems to get some form of mites. How can I cure her sore paws that have ulcer like sores between her toes and swollen paws from the mites. She has always had trouble with ear mites. I to be able to treat the house and. Us.

The good thing is bird mites don't usually feed off people, but they can still bite and cause irritation. Bird mites usually are a result of wild birds living nearby, so clearing out any brush, nests in your house or under eaves, etc can help to resolve the numbers in your home. Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting everything also can reduce the population.

Bird mites do not usually cause sores, but if they are causing itching and Sassy is chewing on herself to the point of wounding, it is best to have her examined by your vet. They can make sure the sores haven't become infected and that there isn't another parasite that is potentially causing the problem. Most regular flea and tick medications will also protect against biting lice and other similar parasites as well.

My bird's foot is itchy and bleeding from scratching. What to do?

Your bird may have a skin infection, like from a bacteria or fungus, or he may have skin mites causing him to be so itchy. Why are my dogs itching, biting, and have skin sores and cracked paws?

I am unsure of issues that are in Africa but in the united states if 2 dogs in the same house hold are itching I am usually concerned about fleas or skin mites. I would recommend looking for fleas and applying flea prevention every 30 days. you can try an over the counter anti histamine and anti itchy shampoo to calm the irritated skin. However, if you do not see fleas/patients are not improving I would recommend taking Snowy and your other dog to the vet for a good exam to make sure no other parasites are present. My bird is biting its foot and bleeding. How can I help my sick bird?

Poor bird! If the foot is at all infected, trying to find a vet that can help in person is best. However, until you can find one, it is a good idea to separate the bird from any cage mates to keep from being picked on, and move him to a warm hospital cage with larger, flat perches that will make perching easier on his feet. Keeping the foot clean and dry and using an ointment such as Blu-kote (most feed and pet stores carry this for use in poultry and other birds) can help prevent infection. You can also Google how to make a bird-sized Elizabethan (cone) collar to put on the bird so that he can't get to his foot and bite it while it heals.

My dog has fleas, biting paws, inflamed and oozing. Is it infected?

In order to rid the flea problem you will have to treat the animals and the environment at the same time. When the weather cools the problem can get worse. You can get flea tablets to treat the animals with that will last a month or 3 months based on what type you get. As far as the scratching and sores go, there should not be a discharge between the toes. You can try to clean the area with soap and water, and use dawn dish soap or baby shampoo as this can kill the fleas. You can apply cortisone cream to the affected area or medicated powder to help dry out the area to provide some relief.

My dog has small pink bites. Are they mites? What should I do?

If you think your dog has mites you will need to take Vincent to your vet for a skin scrape to verify the mite infection. Sarcoptes mites burrow in the skin and can attack people as well, so a proper diagnosis is important. Your vet will give your dog an injection with a miticide should the diagnosis be mites. Flea bites look similar, so if you are not doing flea prevention this may be the right time to do so.
