My puppy has worms. Can I use OTC dewormer before her vet visit?

Just follow the dosing instructions on the package for your pup's weight. Your veterinarian can do a fecal exam at your appointment to make sure that she doesn't have any other parasites that may need a different medication to treat.

A dewormer should not interfere with recent vaccination. Ideally, you should check with your veterinarian before medicating Dino. A stool sample submitted for analysis can diagnose intestinal parasites and may aid in more effective treatment.

Great question! I would get Ginger an OTC treatment now. You can give her Panacur, it's an excellent dewormer that kills roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It's a three day course of treatment and you will need to give her a second round of it two weeks after the first to kill all the worms. She should then be dewormed monthly until six months of age, and then every three months thereafter. I hope this helps :-)

You can't visually tell the difference between hookworms and roundworms. Thankfully, treatment is similar. You can use an OTC dewormer like the one linked below. You can get her an OTC deworming treatment called Panacur. Keep in mind that it doesn't kill tapeworms, which requires a prescription medication called prazaquantel. You will have to get that medication (I recommend Drontal) from a vet, but you can give Penelope Panacur.

You won't be able to find a tapeworm treatment over the counter so this is going to need to wait for your vet apointment (you could call them back and ask for a sooner apointment explaining the situation), you can buy an over the counter flea treatment though, Advantage spot on is safe to use on dogs from the age of 7 weeks.
