My young puppy won't eat his food. How can I get his appetite back?

As you probably realize this is not a balanced diet for a growing puppy. If you haven't already I would recommend trying various canned puppy foods with a little chicken and rice mixed in. If he absolutely won't eat you can talk to your veterinarian about whether or not it is safe for you to leave food out and wait for him to eat when he's hungry - this could take a day or even longer. If you don't mind cooking for him you could also ask your veterinarian for a referral to a nutritionist to help create a recipe for a balanced home cooked diet.

Do not feed him adult food, it will not provide the nutrition Prince needs as a growing puppy. Try warming his puppy food slightly before feeding. You can also mix in an appropriate puppy milk replacer or a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate his appetite. If he still won't eat, have Prince examined by your veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury.

Charlie is very cute. I would recommend adding a small amount of can puppy food to the dry food or even a little water to soften the food. Some puppies prefer a little soft food to wet. IF that does not help you could try and change brands of food and see if something is a better fit. I am sorry Boba is not feeling well. At that young of an age he most likely needs soften kibble with warm water or you can try can puppy food. Typically dogs are weaned at 5 weeks so 4 weeks might be a little young. i would recommend trying to stay away from people food. If Boba gets use to eating people food he might never want to eat dog food. If he is not acting right or seems sick at this young of an age he really needs to go to a vet. In young dogs parasites, infection and viral disease are all possible and he should really be examined to determine why he is ill. i hope that helps

It's very concerning when a young puppy won't eat, and it could be caused by a serious illness, such as parvovirus, distemper, intestinal worms, infection, or injury among other causes. And in terms of the food -- he should be willing to eat wet food, if not dry food, at this age. So if he's not, I would highly recommend a check up with your vet to make sure everything looks ok. He may just need more time to adjust, but with such a young guy, he can get low blood sugar and dehydration very quickly, so it's important to act sooner rather than later.

Chapatis, oats, and rice are not a balanced or healthy diet for a dog. Dogs need protein and calcium as well as many other vitamins and nutrients, and that diet you provided doesn't give him that. I see that Max is six months old, so he needs a puppy formulated food. Puppies need higher amounts of calories, protein, and calcium than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will provide that for him. I would not give him human food any longer, and put him on a puppy dog food until he is 12 months. Then he should be on an adult dog food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I would also have a health check for him with the vet. He may be feeling unwell from have a nutrient deficient diet, or he could also have a medical illness causing the loss of appetite. Please keep in mind that even if it is a medical illness causing him to lose his appetite, the current diet you are feeding him is very poor and he needs to be on a puppy food.
