My puppy has white worms in his poop. How can I treat them at home?

Oh my. Poor Gunner. If these are small like white rice then they are likely tapeworms. Tapeworms are not infective once they are dried up; therefore, you can use normal everyday cleaner to clean the area free of the worms. No special requirements needed, since they are not infected once they are dried up. If you do see a live worm, then wear gloves to remove them from the area, then spray as needed. Good hygiene is the best way to prevent infecting yourself, which requires you actually ingesting a live worm. A tapeworm medication (i.e. Praziquantel, Drontal) should be started right away to rid the worms in Gunner's system. Also a flea preventative (i..e Bravecto, Nexgard, Trifexis-heartworm and flea) is needed to prevent re-infection, since Tapeworms come from ingesting a flea. If the worms are Roundworms, then the same recommendations apply, except Roundworms look like angel hair pasta and don't come from fleas, but instead from the environment and in-utero infection is common. These are treated with a broad spectrum dewormer (i.e. Pyrantel Palmoate or Fenbendazole). I hope you can get Gunner free of his parasites soon and get him on the right track towards healthy living. Take care of yourself and especially any young children that may come into contact with Gunner, as they like to stick their hands in their mouths without washing first (typical way people get infected with worms). Fortunately, hookworms are relatively easy to treat with either fenbendazole (such as Panacur) or pyrantel pamoate (such as Nemex) based deworming medications, all of which are available over the counter. Be sure to clean up after each of Malaki's bowel movements to prevent reinfection. You may need to treat Malaki twice, but three weeks apart to assure that all parasites were killed. Poor pup. Roundworms are very common in puppies, because they can get infected while still in their mothers tummy (in utero) and through the mother's milk. To treat roundworms Harry just needs a broad spectrum dewormer like Pyrantel Palmoate or Fenbendazole. 1 treatment given today and then again in 2 weeks. To prevent roundworm infestations in the future Harry needs to get on a monthly heartworm preventative, which has natural intestinal dewormer in it as well. Harry will need to see a vet to get a prescription for the heartworm preventative (i.e. Heartgard, Trifexis, etc), but the intestinal dewormer can be purchased through your local pet store. Your pup should be just fine once he is treated. : )

Those look like they are probably roundworms. She would have gotten them from coming into contact with infective eggs in the soil most likely. (From where another dog pooped and that poop contained roundworm eggs, then your dog was nosing around near where that was (even if there was no obvious poop on the ground, the eggs will stay in the soil). It is not a result of the food. You can get effective roundworm treatment over the counter. Look for a pyrantel product and follow the label instructions. Feed stores will generally carry it. Looks like roundworms. There are many OTC dewormers that should work just fine. You can look for one that contains Pyrantel. It is still a good idea to have a vet diagnose what worms or other intestinal parasites are present. And Cujo will need re-treatment in 3 weeks to kill adults that hatch from eggs in the intestines right now. These are roundworms. They are a common parasite for puppies to acquire at birth and don't tend to cause any major problems. They are easily treatable with deworming medication that can be purchased at a pet store, or a veterinary office. I recommend having a vet prescribe the medication to ensure it's safe for Oreo and proper instructions are given. I hope that helps and all is well with Oreo.

For your dog, pyrantel pamoate or fenbendazole would be effective to treat hookworms - both of these can be purchased over the counter at most pet stores. Just follow the dosing instructions on the label of the product you purchase - it should say how much to give and for how long, based on your dog's weight.
