Why does my 4-month Akita puppy have watery, colored eye discharge?

Poor girl. It would help if you posted a picture here, but it does sound like Ayumi has possible conjunctivitis. If the discharge is yellow or green, then there is an infection that should be checked by your vet. The vet needs to do an eye stain to check for any ulcers/scratches on the eye surface, and then prescribe eye ointment/drops to allow this to heal. It is possible that blowing in her face could have inadvertently caused dust or debris to go into her eye and cause irritation or there could be another cause altogether. Eye problems in dogs can't be treated with anything over the counter unfortunately, so its best to get her seen by your vet soon for treatment. He can have an eye infection, but he may also have gotten dust in his eyes. If he recently was around other dogs I recommend bringing him to a veterinarian since it can be pink eye. Otherwise, I recommend rinsing his eyes with saline and if the redness doesn't resolve or gets worse bring him to a veterinarian. He may need eye drops. You could rinse his eye out with an eye wash or some artificial tears, like GenTeal drops. If his signs continue then he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection, scratch, ulcer, or foreign material in his eye and your vet can stain his eye to evaluate his cornea for damage. He may need an antibiotic eye drop and other medications to treat. Hope he feels better soon!

I would take him into a vet now for an exam. The vet can confirm the eye infection, and can give him an antibiotic eye ointment to treat it.

I would recommend that Sampson get checked out by a vet. The symptoms you have described could be caused by allergies, infection, corneal ulcer or abrasion, among a few others. You can use an OTC saline eye wash to gently flush the eyes to try to remove any dirt or debris that can be causing irritation. Sampson should also wear an e-collar or cone to prevent damage to the cornea from rubbing and itching. But if the eyes don't look better in the morning he should definitely see a vet. Eyes can heal quickly, but they can also get much worse very quickly! I hope Sampson gets to feeling better soon!
