My puppy walks, sits oddly, has different leg lengths & jumps poorly.

Congratulations on your new puppies. As you were describing how one of them was walking, I began to think that either there has been trauma to that specific leg either buy mom accidentally rolling over on the puppy, etc. or there may even be a genetic growth disorder that is affecting the specific puppy. Actally there is still that a lot that can be done for pets this young in terms of veterinary care. Perhaps a small splint can be applied or maybe there is a nutritional deficiency that is causing this leg abnormality that can be corrected by proper supplementation. Nevertheless, I urge you to take the affected puppy to the veterinarian as soon as possible to have a complete orthopedic examination performed. I would also take another one of the puppies as well as the mother just in case they need to do some testing on them also to see if there are any linking causes. Good luck. Oh my goodness, Honey is so cute! What an adorable puppy! I recommend having her seen by a vet for this problem and to have x-rays done on that leg. It could be there was a disruption to the growth plate of her radius or ulna causing one of those bones to stop growing while the other continues to grown and causes the deformity you are seeing. This can be corrected surgically, which is why I recommend having her seen by a vet. With the x-rays, the vet can determine what is causing the deformity and can discuss surgical options with you. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This is most certainly a congenital problem, essentially a birth defect. Whether there are any treatments depends on how severe the problem is, does it involve all the long bones in the legs, it this mainly a problem with joint & tendon laxity, or are certain structures underdeveloped or missing all together. X-rays are imperative. Depending on what is seen, & how much time & money you wish to spend on this poor little guy would determine a treatment plan. Surgery may be an option, but leg braces & splints may be appropriate, too. In the short term, he will probably do fine, but with time & age, he may be very prone to developing abrasions & pressure sores, & most likely arthritis. If you decide to adopt this sweet guy, go in with the anticipation of higher than normal care costs, & unexpected problems that can arise. A special needs pet needs a very special owner. Hello. Without x-rays it is impossible to know what is actually going on in the paw. It is difficult to say if this will bother her more as she matures, but you really do not have too many options. Perhaps a surgery to fuse & stabilize the paw may be helpful, but will not eliminate all pain & discomfort & you certainly would not amputate the leg unless she began to self-mutilate the paw. So, unless you can have the paw x-rayed, I would take a wait & see how she does. If she over does it when you play with her, then make sure she rests the leg. Otherwise, I would try to avoid pain relieves in such a young dog. Perhaps, once her bones are finished growing & maturing, she may actually do quite well. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Benelly! If it doesn't resolve with rest I would have him looked at by your Vet. Possibilities are a back strain or sprain, Lyme disease, or hip dysplasia. An exam and hip X-rays could help determine what might be going on. Try resting him for a few days and if there is no improvement have him seen early next week. I wish Benelly a speedy recovery!

It sounds like your pet could have dislocated her hip joint. Please have her exaxmined by your vet to have this checked. X-rays of her leg will likely be needed. Best of luck moving forward and I hope that you can get Pancha's leg repaired soon. Take care.

I suspect this is a congenital abnormality. I recommend to get Ares examined by the veterinarian. With puppies, sometimes there are treatments available since they are still developing but sometimes there are not any options. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
