Puppy vomiting, not eating/drinking, and lethargic. Vet now?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 28 days old | 10 lbs

Hello my Coco is almost 6months old. Last night about 8pm he was not active or energetic. He didn't seem to want to be bothered and hid under the bed. He usually sleeps on the bed with me. Sometime during the night he vomited. I can't make all he ate and what I can he shouldn't have eaten. This morning he's still not active and doesn't want to drink. I haven't fed him yet for fear of an upset stomach. His last meal was around 730pm last night. Does he need to be seen by a vet immediately? Ty

I am sorry to hear about Coco. I would recommend a trip to the vet today. Given his symptoms, his age, and the contents of his vomit we worry very much about an gastrointestinal foreign body/obstruction. The vet can do an x-ray to see if there is any evidence of material left in the GI tract. If there is, they may give him fluids and laxative to see if it can pass or may recommend surgery based on how severe the problem appears. If no evidence of obstruction is present he may need symptomatic treatment for his upset stomach such as anti-nausea medication and antacids.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Coco is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning for conditions that include intestinal worms, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, gastrointestinal obstrcution, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Coco evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they address dehydration if present and start him on anti-nausea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

Sorry to hear that Coco is not feeling well. I would suggest taking COCO in to your vet to be seen. The penile discharge may be normal and it may also indicate a urinary tract infection, especially if he is running a fever and sick. The skin could be a separate problem or part of a whole systemic infection. Since he is vomiting, not feeling well and exhibiting all of these other symptoms, a vet should really take a look at him so he can receive the proper treatment. It sounds as Coco is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

I am so sorry to hear that Coco is sick. At 8 weeks old my biggest concerns would be parvovirus, intestinal parasites, and something called intussusception. This is where the intestine telescopes on itself and causes a functional obstruction. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment or seek a second opinion. An 8 week old puppy will become dehydrated and decompensate quickly without supportive care. IV fluids, anti nausea medications and anti diarrhea meds would be a good plan while the diagnostics are Being run to identify the problem such as fecal Exams, parvo test, CBC, And probably repeat x-rays. Dog vomiting and diarrhea: Is it a bug, and can I wait to see the vet?

It could just be a GI illness or Coco may have eaten something rotten. It really is best she sees a vet now, but if you cannot get her into a vet today, it can wait until tomorrow as long as she is drinking and acting normally. If she starts vomiting water, stops drinking water, or becomes very lethargic, she has to see a vet right away.

Hello, thank you for your question about Coco. Based on the symptoms that you are describing I would be concerned about an underlying GI problem. Some dogs are sensitive to stress and changes in their environment, but I would be worried that an underlying problem is going on because her appetite has gotten worse. It is possible that she could be experiencing some inflammation/GI upset, obstruction, or another problem. If this behavior continues I would recommend having Coco seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine her and assess for any dehydration or abdominal discomfort.
