What age should my new puppy get vaccinations and be spayed?

Some vaccines depend on where you live but the core vaccines are as follows: Distemper/adenovirus/parvo/parainfluenza- this is a combination vaccine given in a series 3-4 weeks apart Rabies- the age given depends on your area but usually at 16 weeks of age The optional vaccines are: Leptospirosis- 2 given 3-4 weeks apart Lyme- 2 given 3-4 weeks apart Bordetella- may or may not be given twice Flu- given 2-3 weeks apart. I recommend contacting a vet to set up an initial appointment. They can go over these in more detail and tailor them to Gnocchi’s lifestyle. She could have been spayed anytime after 6 months of age. The more heat cycles she goes through, the greater risk she has of developing mammary gland tumors later in life. As she gets older, the risk of uterine infection (pyometra) will also increase. The rabies vaccine should have been administered at between 12-16 weeks of age. She should have received a booster at 1 year of age. After that one, she can get a rabies vaccine every 3 years. The "5 way vaccine", does not include rabies. This vaccine can be given yearly or every 3 years depending on which company makes it.

Hi there! She will need to have a check-up with your veterinarian and her first set of vaccines as soon as you get her. After that, it's fine for her to be around healthy vaccinated dogs, sign up for puppy kindergarten classes, etc. - but I would not take her dog parks or other high-traffic areas with lots of unknown dogs until she is completely finished with her vaccine series at 16+ weeks of age. Some umblical hernias are harmless and don't need to be fixed, while others do. Your veterinarian should be able to determine this at the time of her exam. If the hernia does need to be repaired, this can usually be done at the same time as her spay to avoid having to have two separate anesthetic procedures. Dogs are typically spayed at around 4-6 months of age. This can often be scheduled in conjunction with the pup's last set of vaccines, if you wish. Cost for a spay and hernia repair will vary widely depending on where you live and which specific vet clinic you go to, so I would suggest calling around to some local clinics in your area for prices if this is a concern.

Most puppies will get their first set of vaccines around 8-10 weeks of age depending on when they were weaned from mom and if they've had any previous vaccines. Puppies typically get three vaccines starting at 6-8 weeks of age. Starting at 6 weeks is better than starting at eight. The boosters are 2-4 weeks apart depending on their risk. High risk puppies (in contact with a lot of dogs, or infected dogs) should get the vaccine every two weeks. The last vaccine should be around 16-18 weeks and is very important for them to get, because this is when they are most susceptible to getting one of the diseases we vaccinate for. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 5 weeks is a bit young to leave her mother but if she is fully weaned it should be ok. We usually do not start vaccines until they are 7 weeks of age. Some breeders will give them a parvo vaccine at under 7 weeks. You should be fine until she gets her first vaccine but people with sick dogs or unvaccinated dogs shouldn't handle her and she needs to be kept away from all dogs. I hope this helps and good luck!
