My puppy swallowed silicone, vet couldn't induce vomit. What now?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Honey is very cute! If she chewed up the arm in to pieces she will likely be fine. If she swallowed it whole then it could pass in her stool, she could vomit it up on her own or it could becomes stuck and cause a blockage. It is best, if swallowed whole and it just happened, to take her to the Vet right away and have them induce vomiting. We do not recommend hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. Signs of a blockage are vomiting, not eating and lethargy. I hope this helps!

I never recommend including vomiting at home because the substance used at home causes esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem. Plus, the shoe could become stuck in his esophagus, leading to a very serious situation. You can take him into a vet now to have vomiting safely induced with a shot, or you can chose to monitor him. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, anorexia, or lethargy, he should see a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

This is because hydrogen peroxide can and does cause gastritis and esophagitis, often worse than the initial problem. You can take her into an ER vet now, and they can safely induce vomiting with a shot. Otherwise, it may pass without problem, and you can watch her. If you see any vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy, that is an indication there may be an obstruction from the anklet, and she will have to see a vet immediately. It's hard to say if it will pass safely or not. Round objects could cause issues. If it was recent, I would recommend taking Maci in to an emergency vet to safely attempt to induce vomiting. If it comes up, no worries!

Sometimes the foreign body is small enough to pass through the gastrointestinal tract without causing a problem and can be medically managed as it seems to be in your description with your veterinarian. However, sometimes foreign bodies do get stuck in the intestine and can cause an intestinal obstruction that requires surgery. it is good Marla is eating and has not vomited, but if you notice anytime in the next 48 hours that her lethargy is not improving, she loses her appetite, starts vomiting, or having diarrhea, I would recommend taking her in again. Even if the glove passes through the pyloric sphincter, it can get stuck elsewhere in the intestinal tract. Initially, waiting isn't considered harmful if the object is suspected to be small enough and believed to be passable, but if it is large enough, it may cause an obstruction and should be treated surgically. Again, signs to watch out for that would warrant another vet visit would be lack of appetite, continued lethargy or worsening lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea in the next 48 hours. I hope this helps! Hi there and thanks for posting! If it has been 2 or more hours since he swallowed the object, inducing vomiting at a veterinary office will probably not be successful. However, if it just happened, you may want to take him in to his veterinarian do to this if you are concerned. Since we are not entirely certain what it was he consumed, it is better safe than sorry on this one. If more than 2 hours have passed, then I would keep an eye on Zeus for the next few days. If you notice any vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy, I would take him into see his veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helps!
