Why does my 1-year-old puppy have skin patches, pain, and foul odor?

First, you would need to have the underlying condition diagnosed. This could be a bacterial, fungal or parasite (fleas or mites) infection. A physical exam with your veterinarian is required to make the diagnosis. Once you have this information, the appropriate treatment can be administered. Any treatment will depend on the diagnosis but may include systemic and/or topical treatments. In the meantime, use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking or chewing and make sure Rex is on a monthly flea preventive to rule out fleas.

Poor Oakley! He needs to see the veterinarian. The odor is likely due to secondary bacterial or yeast infection. The primary problem is likely skin mites or an allergy but thyroid disease is possible. He needs medications and likely a medicated shampoo. Hello. In a 7 month old pup, my first guess is Demodex mange. But, this could also be a simple bacterial infection. Let your veterinarian do a simple skin test to see if the mites are present. Judging by your description, it sounds as though Shiloh may have a skin infection or seborrheic dermatitis possibly. Without pictures and not being able to examine the area myself, it is difficult to say for sure. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Shiloh so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Shiloh may need an oral antibiotic and topical therapy for treatment. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor Angel! It could be mange but the thickness on her ears looks like yeast and bacteria could also be involved. If she didn't get worse on the prednisone, this make mange less likely but not impossible. With her sores being so bad on her nose, I would strongly recommend to have it biopsied and also cultured to get a quicker diagnosis so she can be treated properly quicker. The quicker we can get her started on the proper meds the quicker she will start to heal. I hope this helps!

I am very concerned by these pictures. I worry that the skin may be a manifestation of an underlying health issue. I would highly recommend blood work and a skin biopsy to help identify what the underlying problem is. Unfortunately cancer is high on my list of concerns. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.
