My puppy is shaking, drooling, and weak. What should I do now?

Poor Nala! If she is very pale, curled up, in shock, or in distress/pain it would be best to seek care from your veterinarian or an emergency clinic in person ASAP, especially as puppies (and very small breed dogs) can quickly become hypoglycemic. Feeding smaller meals more frequently can help with hypoglycemia and preventing it in small breed dogs. You can also use a warm washcloth to clean any crusting from the eyes or nose, however if her symptoms continue, seeing a vet in person is best.

Usually small breed dogs require to be fed throughout the day every 6 hours or so. However, this could also be due to something else like a toxicity of some kind. Seizures can be detrimental to a dog's health and this warrants an evaluation as soon as possible by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a great day!

I am concerned that your puppy is quite sick. There are a number of things that can cause this, but the first things I am concerned about are 1) infection, 2) hypoglycemia and 3)parasites. I would want to ensure that she is not septic which can cause secondary hypoglycemia. It would be best if he was seen by a veterinarian.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jace. I am concerned that he was experiencing an episode of low blood sugar. It is common in puppies as small as he is. If he is still acting so lethargic, I would recommend putting karo syrup (or maple syrup or honey) on his gums and he will need to see an emergency veterinarian. If he is back to normal now, monitor him closely and apply the syrup if you ever notice these signs in him again. Provide kibble for him at all times so that he never goes long between meals. Of course, something else could be wrong that your veterinarian could determine based in his exam. I hope this information helps!

Unwell puppies can quickly decompensate and become very ill, even passing on their own. If Fluffy is shivering, she may be cold, but she may also have low blood sugar. I recommend bringing Fluffy to your nearest veterinarian as soon as you can. In the meantime, you can try putting a small amount of Karo Syrup on your finger tip and gently rubbing it on her gums. I agree with your concerns. This is not normal for a puppy, and I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian. Small puppies can have problems regulating their blood glucose levels and that may cause the trembling and nausea. Try to give her a snack every 3-4 hours if possible. Also, deworming and vaccinations are important at this age as well. Your veterinarian will complete a good physical examination on her and let you know if they have any other concerns.
