Can puppies get their second shots at 8 weeks before adoption?

Puppies typically get three vaccines starting at 6-8 weeks of age. Starting at 6 weeks is better than starting at eight. The boosters are 2-4 weeks apart depending on their risk. High risk puppies (in contact with a lot of dogs, or infected dogs) should get the vaccine every two weeks. The last vaccine should be around 16-18 weeks and is very important for them to get, because this is when they are most susceptible to getting one of the diseases we vaccinate for. Congratulations on your new pup :) If she hasn't had anything done yet, she will need a vet visit for her first DAPP vaccine (for distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, and parainfluenza) as well as a general wellness check-up. She should also have a fecal exam for parasites, and should be dewormed if any are found. She's also old enough to start on heartworm prevention if this is a problem in your area - the vet should be able to advise you if this is needed. After that, she will need to have her DAPP vaccine boostered every 3-4 weeks until she's 16 weeks or older. She will also need a rabies vaccine at 16 weeks. Other vaccinations, such as Lyme disease, leptospirosis, or Bordetella (kennel cough) may also be recommended depending on what is common in your area and her risk of exposure. Your veterinarian should discuss this with you at her check-up visit, and will let you know if any of these vaccines are needed.

Most puppies will get their first set of vaccines around 8-10 weeks of age depending on when they were weaned from mom and if they've had any previous vaccines. I see no reason why you could not adopt two 8 week old puppies at the same time. As a matter of fact they will not be so lonely when they come to their new home. They can comfort each other and I think they will be much better socialised with other dogs and people if they grow up together. No, you do not have to rehome one of them. Make sure they are wormed every two weeks until the age of three months and get fed good quality brandname complete puppy food for toy breeds and get the full course of vaccinations (3-4 rounds of vaccinations, depending on when vaccinations are started).

The whole cycle for the specific disease that it is used has to be completed and at least 3-4 weeks pass for the dog to really be protected against a disease as that is what the immune system needs to build immunity. So the pup that is vaccinated is not protected yet and should not be taken outside and your other pup should also get vaccinated to get protection against those preventable diseases. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would get puppies in by 8 weeks for thei first DHPP vaccines. Bring a stool sample. They will start them on heart worm and flea and tick medication. Your local township should have forms for licensing. Most people wait until their dogs receive their rabies vaccine and are spayed or neutered. Otherwise I’m not sure what you mean by registered. Good luck!

I would recommend deworming all the puppies. I would not start vaccinating them for another 2 weeks if they are only 1 1/2 months old. They need their DAPP vaccinations every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age. They need rabies vaccinations at 16 weeks of age. Depending on your location if youhave Lepto in the area then I would start the Leptospirosis vaccination at 12 weeks of age.
