Puppy has scabs, bald spots, and is lethargic. How to provide relief?

It is concerning that he is not eating. Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Yoyo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is a possibility Colt has a skin mite called demodex (mange). These mites are microscopic and don’t cause the pet to scratch. I recommend taking him to a vet where they can scrape his skin and look for the mite with a microscope. They can also look for a secondary bacterial infection from the mite. Once they have a diagnosis they can prescribe him the correct medications to treat his skin. Good luck and kisses to Colt!

From your pictures, his skin does have the appearance of an infection. This can be due to an allergy to something in his diet (more likely if he has vomiting and diarrhea as well) or the environment. Mites can also cause this appearance as can a fungal infection known as ringworm. His veterinarian will need to examine him and may recommend skin testing. In the meantime, you can bathe him with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. I hope this information helps!

I would recommend that Buddy see a vet as soon as possible. The things you have mentioned do not fit with any one disease in my head, but a poor appetite and diarrhea in a puppy are concerns for bacterial or viral infection, including parvo virus. I always recommend evaluation by a vet if diarrhea with poor appetite happen longer than 24 hours. Possible causes include infection, intestinal parasites, intestinal blockage, food allergy, among others. Many of these can also lead to a dull coat. Not being able to stand is unusual in a puppy, but can be caused by infections, intervertebral disc disease, neurologic disease, hypoglycemia, etc.

This can be due to a bacterial or fungal infection. At your appointment, your vet may take some skin and hair samples to determine the exact cause and start Kiyoko on antibiotics. In the meantime, you should wash your hands with soap and water after petting your dog, as certain fungal infections can be transmitted to humans.
